ADTECH has issued findings from its latest research into browser trends across the United States. As expected, Internet Explorer (IE) 7.x increased market share from 25% in Q I 2007 to 47.3% in QI 2008. IE 7.x is the newest standard among Internet browsers, forcing older versions of IE to relinquish market share.
According to Dirk Freytag, ADTECH’s CEO, “A trend is emerging with the growth rates for IE 7.x increasing over the last several months. I believe that by the beginning of April the number will increase to more than 50%.”
IE 6.x market share has dropped to 34% and its market leadership seems to have become a thing of the past. However, IE 6.x still ranks second in the overall list of all browsers.
The share of the other alternative browsers like AppleWebKit and Opera remains under the five per cent level.
Freytag continued, “Firefox 2.x remains the preferred alternative to Internet Explorer and therefore should be considered on the advertising planning agenda. I believe, Firefox 2.X users will increase to about 20% by year end, delivering one fifth of all ad impressions.”
Since 2004,ADTECH has been evaluating browser distribution and publishes an analysis of key trends and statistics. In Q1 2008, ADTECH evaluated over 10 billion banner inquiries, from 2,000 websites, to its ad servers across the United States as the metrics for its regular browser analysis.
Browser distribution and click rates can vary according to website, day of the week, and time of day. ADTECH uses its browser analysis to show trends, rather than determine absolute figures.
